Orphans face a world without hope, without a family. All children need a place to belong and parents who love them. Without a loving and encouraging home, many orphans grow up either in the foster care system or as wards of a government system. A majority of these children end up participating in theft, prostitution, homelessness, substance abuse, incarceration and suicide, no matter where in the world they live. For these children, being taken in to a family through adoption is their greatest need.
In Texas alone, there are over 10,000 children in the foster care system. Orphanages are a thing of the past, so these children spend their life moving from home to home.
All over the world, children are living without the benefit of a family.
Adoption is not about whether or not you can have children biologically. The scriptures are clear that children are a blessing, so how can we say no to great a need?
What can we do? We can pray, ask the Lord to show us our part in helping meet this incredible need. Perhaps you are interested in adopting either domestically or internationally; maybe you are called to help support families who are trying to adopt. Perhaps you can help provide care, run errands, help with school. Maybe you have financial resources to give to help families they pursue adoption.
We are the body of Christ, and caring for orphans is one of our mandates from the Lord. He cares, and so should we.
